The Quest for the Perfect Salsa

Sometimes, one of the best things about writing is learning about things that you’ve always wanted to discover… on a deeper level than normal.

For example, there’s a lot of salsa makin’/eatin’ going on in my current WIP. So I’m thinking… how can I write about my MC being this girl who makes some serious kick-assed salsa, unless I become somewhat of a salsa expert myself?

Yeah, it’s a tough job.

So, yeah, I’m on the quest for the perfect salsa.

No mass-produced-by-the-ton-tomato-saucy stuff that could pass for ketchup minus the green chunk.

I’m talking the real stuff.

So I found this place… Valli Produce in the Chicago area. I think there are a couple of them.

Ok, pause. One thing I have to say is, Do Not fear the ethnic grocery stores. Some of the best food, best prices can be found at these places, for sure. Plus, you might learn a thing or two.

Anyway, turns out, there is no perfect salsa, just… “Damn That’s Good,” and “Gimme Some More of That” Salsa.

So here they are… I went all out and bought three. I plan for them to be GONE by the end of the long holiday weekend.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the area, check Valli out… even if your taste buds are a little wimpy. Everyone living in Chicago could use a little extra hair on their chests, anyway.

Also, if you know of a place that makes a good one… go ahead and give them a shout out. I’d love to hear about it.
